Christmas 2002
A tradition at Anchor, going back to 1999, is for people to include the church in their Christmas shopping. Just after Thanksgiving, a little Christmas tree is placed in the lobby, and it is covered with practical gifts for the church--lightbulbs, soap, styrofoam plates, basketballs, cleaning supplies, snacks, etc. People take an "ornament" from the tree, buy the gift written on it, wrap it up, and bring it back to the church. Then, on Christmas Sunday, the gifts are opened.
For several years, we have opened the gifts during the service. In 2002, all of the wrapped gifts were assembled at the front of the church. The young children then passed them out to adults sitting in the congregation, who opened them. The children then brought the opened gifts back to the front of the church.
