Our Big Annual Events
Summer Carnival
We often--but not always--hold a big carnival sometime during the summer. It attracts a lot of people form the community.
Youth Missions Trip
Nearly every summer, the youth go somewhere on a service trip. They raise their own money for this. They've gone to Washington DC, Mexico, an Indian reservation in South Dakota, and the Bahamas.
All-Church Picnic and Baptism
In May, we go to the Stillwater retreat (just south of Fort Wayne) for a church picnic and baptism. We started this in 1999 (doing it in September back then), initially going to Stillwater in the afternoon. In 2002, we moved the whole morning service to Stillwater. It was fun. We hold the service in the main building, and then we all walk to the pond for the baptismal service. After that, we have a potluck dinner. Then people stick around for games, fellowship, and swimming. It's always a fun day.
Halloween Party and Maze
This is a popular event for the community, as parents bring their kids to the church after trick-or-treating. The place is always filled with people. Kids are invited to go through the maze we set up in the downstairs children's sanctuary. Read more.
Anniversary Sunday
Anchor started on October 18, 1998. The Sunday closest to that date is our anniversary Sunday.
Christmas and Easter
We always special things planned for these days.
Leadership Retreat
We sometimes hold a leadership retreat at a lake community just west of Angola, Ind. An average of 30-40 people normally attend. We talk about the ministry of Anchor, how we are doing, and what we need to do better. Pastor Hallman also leads us in some leadership training. And we eat eat eat. The last leadership retreat was held in 2007.
